Conjunctivitis - Easy Treatments
One of the easiest remedies to treat conjunctivitis can be found in your kitchen cupboard.
Firstly before treating conjunctivitis it is important to distinguish whether the conjunctivitis is allergic, bacterial or viral conjunctivitis. This remedy will help treat bacterial or viral conjunctivitis, not allergic.
Black tea bags are very useful because they have a high tannin content which helps to kill bacteria and viruses. To make this remedy you will require 2 to 3 black tea bags to 1 cup of boiling water, cover and steep for 15 minutes.
Soak a cotton ball into the black tea. Make sure the water is a tepid temperature, safe to use on the skin. Lift the child’s or adults head back, squeeze a few drops of black tea into the inner corner of the affected eye. Let the tea liquid run outward toward the ear to prevent spreading the infection to the other eye.
Pat excess liquid dry with tissue paper or cloth, do not reuse the same cotton ball or cloth. Repeat this treatment 4 times per day. Symptoms normally improve within 24 hours. If symptoms persist please consult your doctor.
It is highly advisable to continue this treatment twice daily for 1 week after symptoms have resolved to avoid reinfection.
